Preta de Souza (Tais Araújo) is an honest, upbeat and romantic young woman from Maranhão. Since her childhood, she helps her mother(Solange Couto) sell medicinal herbs in a street stand in the center of São Luís, Maranhão. When the story starts, we find Preta living a simple and happy life, dancing in the streets of São Luís, never knowing that the arrival of a new visitor in her town will soon change her life. The choice of Tais Araújo for the role seemed obvious to the production of the soap :
" We needed a good actress, charismatic, popular and sympathetic that, at the same time, had this greatness to be a team leader. And here she is, proving that she is a serious professional, concerned with all matters involving the production of a soap opera" - explains Denise Saraceni, Director of the soap opera written by Joao Emanuel Carneiro.
What does Tais think about her character, Preta de Souza?
"As much as Preta has taken a beating from Barbara, she is not the passive type. She also reacts, curses, fights back."
Being cast to play a heroin in a Globo soap apera
"It is time for us black people, to celebrate this victory over prejudice. I hope that this soap will open the way for us not only in soap operas, but also in other cultural areas"
The main couple
"I love this couple, people... Gianecchini and I"
The success of Da cor do Pecado
"Giane is a prince. He is the most polite, the most handsome, the nicest, most everything. It's almost a person who does not exist "
"I'm always friend of my peers. Giane is my best friend "
How racism will be handled in the soap
"Barbara uses the covert Brazilian racism to humiliate Preta in every way possible. My character will suffer a lot, but will suffer more for love than by prejudice, because Preta is a classic romantic heroine: she cries a lot, but she battle for what she wants "
Favorite scene
I will never forget the scene when Preta gives birth to her son on a bus.
"Tais is lovely. It was a delight to work with her for a month in Maranhao"
Reynaldo Gianecchini
